The Pearson story
Designed for the independently minded.
When Tom Pearson struck iron in Sutton in 1860, the bicycle was a novelty. He could not have imagined that the workshop he fired up that year would still be placing its name on the finest performance bicycles over 166 years later.
Today, Pearson Cycles is a British performance carbon bicycle brand. Designed in London. Built around frame geometry informed by 3,000+ professional bike fits collected over 13 years.

Two world wars. Two pandemics. A man on the moon. The worldwide web. Five generations of one family. Through every chapter, the Pearson name on a bicycle has never wavered.
The timeline

Our history runs alongside the sport's. Here they are together.

1860The blacksmith sets up shop.
Tom Pearson, a blacksmith from Cobham in Surrey, sets up a workshop on Sutton High Street in south London.
- 1868In cycling: the first recorded bicycle race 1,200 metres of the Parc de Saint-Cloud, Paris.
- 1885In cycling: the safety bicycle Starley's Rover settles the shape every bike still follows.

1889The Endeavour. The first Pearson bicycle.
Harry Pearson succeeds his father and makes a decisive move: full-time bicycle manufacture, from the Sutton works.
- 1903In cycling: the first Tour de France We had been building bicycles for fourteen years.
- 1937In cycling: derailleurs reach the Tour and riders stop flipping the wheel to change gear.

1939Riding through the darkest hours.
The business passes to Harry's sons, Arthur and Len. Both brothers keep south London moving through the war.

1965A racing institution.
Arthur's son, Roger, steers the business into performance racing and cyclo-cross.
- 1984In cycling: clipless pedals Look borrows its ski binding and retires the toe strap.
- 1986In cycling: carbon fibre wins the Tour and the material every fast bike is now made from arrives.

1994A new generation takes the wheel.
Roger's sons, Guy and Will, join the family business: the fifth generation to carry the name forward.

2025Keep the forge ablaze.
For the first time in the company’s history, day-to-day stewardship passes to someone outside the family.

2026The On&On Race.
The newest bike to carry the name: a carbon gravel racer, built to order in south west London.
Every Pearson, ever
Thirty-four bikes. One name.
Race bikes named after dogs. Gravel bikes named after wartime speeches. Randonneurs named for the saddles of friends. Every model the workshop has put its name on, since The Endeavour rolled out of Sutton in 1889.
