Shimano has announced a voluntary inspection and replacement program for a number of road cranksets manufactured before July 2019 for a bonding separation issue. This may or may not affect you, and is valid for Pearson or any other manufacturer's bikes, including those not originally bought from us.
Firstly confirm that the model number and production code match one of the target crankset models. Please do not remove the cranks before speaking with our workshop team.
The only affected products are cranksets with the following model numbers: ULTEGRA FC-6800, FC-R8000 and DURA-ACE FC-9000, FC-R9100 and FC-R9100-P.
A manufacturing code is stamped on the inside of the crank arm near the bottom of the arm. The affected models have the following two-letter codes: KF, KG, KH, KI, KJ, KK, KL, LA, LB, LC, LD, LE, LF, LG, LH, LI, LJ, LK, LL, MA, MB, MC, MD, ME, MF, MG, MH, MI, MJ, MK, ML, NA, NB, NC, ND, NE, NF, NG, NH, NI, NJ, NK, NL, OA, OB, OC, OD, OE, OF, OG, OH, OI, OJ, OK, OL, PA, PB, PC, PD, PE, PF, PG, PH, PI, PJ, PK, PL, QA, QB, QC, QD, QE, QF, QG, QH, QI, QJ, QK, QL, RA, RB, RC, RD, RE, and RF.
Where to find the model number and production code:
If you have an affected model you should arrange a time to drop your bike off for inspection through our workshop team. This can be done easily through the following link.
We will then perform the inspection as set out by Shimano. It's likely there will be no issues, however, if we identify concerns, we will fill in all the necessary paperwork and request replacement parts as approved by Shimano.
All chainset swaps will be at Shimano’s cost. If you would like a bike service or any other work during this process, you can add this through the link. Any additional work requested would be charged for at standard rates.
If you have any further questions you can investigate directly with Shimano (Shimano helpline +441174094110) or email the Pearson workshop team.
